KITCHEN REVEAL

Here are all the details on our custom kitchen.  I hope you love it as much as I do!  To start off the building process, I did a lot of research on what I liked and wanted in our new home, specifically in the kitchen. I also made a list of things I did not care for or want. I drew sketches of different layouts and created image boards.

Our custom kitchen must haves:

  • Space to move about
  • Natural Light
  • A large Island
  • More large drawers than cabinets
  • High quality appliances that are durable and last for a decade or more
  • One main large sink that is durable, with a view
  • A separate area for entertaining / a mini bar counter
  • A Pantry

Cabinets

I chose to use Kemper Echo wood cabinets in Shaker Style and Full Overlay in a white painted finish. There is so much space in my kitchen cabinets. In the lower cabinets I used a roll out base so items would be easy to reach. I loved the look and function of having large drawers, rather than the traditional double cabinet doors. The look of the cabinet overlay on all of the appliances creates a seamless clean color palate that I love.

Hardware

Cabinet pulls are the brand Lew Hardware. I like how modern they are and the color is the perfect shade of brushed brass. They come in so many different sizes. I tend to go with the wider handle to make a statement on the cabinet.

Counter Tops

On the kitchen counter tops I chose a highly durable polished MSI quartz in Calcutta Ultra.  I floated it up the back wall as a back splash for a consistent texture and to give a clean, polished look. All of MSI’s quartz countertops come in two thicknesses, and it affects not only the appearance but also its function. That extra half-inch can make a difference in terms of the durability, heaviness, edging, and price. A 2cm countertop weighs less and is better suited for vertical applications.  The island top has a Rimrock Edge. The Mitered edge is an edge assembled from two pieces, to give a countertop with less weight the appearance of a much heavier one. I love how this mitered edge gave my island the appearance of being thicker.

Kitchen Sink

Three large casement style black Anderson windows sit above the Fire Clay Apron Sink. The sink I have is a single bowl, has middle drain, is pure white, and is made of a fireclay construction. It has not scratched and has been very durable. Fire Clay is the way to go with a kitchen sink, it makes it extremely durable to scratches and holds up to everyday use.

These big windows make the daily task of washing dishes less daunting. I chose a Casement style window here so that I can control how much it’s opened to let fresh air in.  Our home sits on the lot North / South and the rear of our home gets full sun from sunrise to sunset. Having the sun shine through this kitchen window all day is a huge bonus.

Faucets

I went with the Delta Trinsic Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet with Magnetic Docking Spray in Champagne Bronze. It’s the perfect kitchen faucet!  In our last house we had the “touch faucet” and it got me in such a bad habit of tapping every faucet I ever used. It drove me a little bonkers. The Brizo Cold Only Water Dispenser Beverage Faucet is RO (Reverse Osmosis) Compatible and complimented the main faucet perfectly.

The Delta 24″ Wall-Mounted Pot Filler has a dual swing joint and makes it easy to fill those extra large pots. Champagne bronze is the color that I loved and am so happy I went with it.

Appliances

Appliances are from the GE Monogram Suite. Love, love, love my GE 48” Dual Fuel Monogram range. It has 6 Burners and a griddle. The stainless and brushed gold color look great together and tie in great with my kitchen. The range has very cool lighting options for the knobs. It cooks everything perfectly and is easy to clean. It was worth the investment.

The GE double door refrigerator is honestly the best that I’ve ever owned. It is the Monogram 48″ Built-In Counter Depth Side-by-Side Refrigerator with LED Lighting and WiFi Connect with custom panels.

The Built-In Microwave drawer is the GE Monogram 1.2 Cu. Ft.. It is Stainless steel but sits concealed out of sight in the island. I really like the Sharp Microwave Drawer as well.

The GE – Top Control Built-In Stainless Steel interior Tub Dishwasher with Sanitize Cycle is easy to use, has a third rack, fits large loads and it’s main shelf is adjustable and practical.

After lots of research, I chose to get the 24” ULINE Beverage Center, it has a convection cooling system and a digital touch pad that lets you set the temperature precisely and it’s panel ready.  I wanted a place to keep cold beverages separate from my main fridge. This is so handy and convenient. It was quite an investment but honestly is used everyday by my family and also when we entertain.

Having a Clear Ice Machine is amazing and an overall game changer. I never would have imagined we would use this as much as we do. Our family never runs out out of ice anymore, we used to fill up water bottles for school and after school activities and be out by the last person. We also use uor clear ice machine when we entertain. Having gourmet ice that’s uniquely shaped, crystal clear, slow melting and odorless, and won’t dilute the flavor of our drinks is the BEST!

Lighting

The lighting in a home is always my favorite.
For months I scoured huge lighting catalogs. It actually became my nightly ritual.
The Kitchen Island Lights are by Z Studio, they are 18” and are matte black and heritage brass.  They are a nice contrast to the bright white kitchen. Best Part… these do not show dust like I was expecting.  The lights over the sink are Oil Rubbed Bronze but they appear black so it works. There is under cabinet lighting as well.

The Island

Our Island size is  5ft’ X 6ft.  It hides the microwave drawer, has the ice machine, and has so many cabinets and drawers for storage. The breakfast bar fits 3 stools, which is perfect for our 3 kids.

Counter stools tend to get a lot of wear and tear especially if you have children. I would prefer not to invest in a counter stool because not only will they need replacing in a couple of years due to food and grime, I have noticed the kitchen trends change quickly. Here are some comfy and stylish velvet Stools that are a great price and are just as good quality as the more expensive finds.

Pantry

The Pantry Door – a mistake that I actually love! Originally I had wanted a glass pantry door but then I thought more about how unpractical and unsightly it would be when it’s busting at the seams with food boxes and open cereal boxes. So I switched it to a solid wood shaker style pantry door. The interior doors were one thing that were delayed due to the pandemic and held us up for several weeks.

When the doors finally came in I saw that the pantry door was glass. It must have slipped through the last minute change. I knew if we were going to get moved into the house ( and out of our rental) I had to have the glass pantry door installed.

I’m seriously so glad I went with it. I bought some cool storage containers and really got the pantry organized. It has stayed neat and tidy and the glass adds extra light. With the refection of the glass you can’t see inside the pantry clearly anyway. I think it is very unique and would do it again!

Shelves

These light raw shelves are very on trend right tnow. They bring an element of natural and organic into the space. I used them along with the brushed gold accents and greenery to soften the white and black kitchen.
