CHOOSING THE RIGHT RUG!
When it comes to rugs, the biggest mistake is choosing one that’s too small. For living rooms your area rug should be about the size of your living room’s seating area to ground the conversation space. Your rug should be at least a foot wider than your sofa.
If you’re working with larger furniture, such as a sectional, or with furniture that is not placed against a wall, position the rug with the shape of the room. This will help create visual flow and make the room appear larger. In dining rooms be sure your rug extends at least 24” out from the edge of the table on all sides. I know it drives me nuts when my chair is catching on a rug. In dining rooms with a round table, you can go with a round rug or rectangular rug, just as long as it extends the 24”.
HOW TO HANG WALL ART LIKE A PRO!
If you took a piece of art off your wall would there be a handful of little nail holes from all of your attempts to get it straight? You are not alone! Hanging art, canvases, and photos can take time and patience.
Here are some tips to help you get all of your art hung perfectly the first time. Go big. Choosing wall art on the slightly larger side will be much better than it being too small which makes the room feel barren.The middle of the artwork should hang about 57 inches from the floor (or at eye level for most people). If it is hanging above a sofa, make sure there is at least 6-12 inches between the top of the sofa and the piece of art.
WHAT SIZE CURTAINS?
Curtains can give a room privacy, warmth, help create an overall larger feel and create a specific style. Measure your curtain rods prior to hanging your curtains. The rod should extend about three to six inches past either side of the frame. This allows for optimal light when the curtains are open. To get the right width, multiply the measurement of the rod by 2 to 2.5 for.
For height purposes, the rod should be mounted four to six inches above the window frame to create the illusion of a taller window. Curtains should skim the floor or the sill. Standard lengths are between 63 and 120 inches. Tip – Better to buy them too long, and have them hemmed if needed.
